Here's why the yachting industry will thrive

Updated on January 23rd, 2025

The global yachting industry may experience some fluctuations, but overall it will continue to grow and prosper no matter what. This is our long-term forecast for the rest of the 21st century. And here are the grounds for such an optimistic conclusion.

Firstly, people are starting to look at nature again with the aim of getting to know it better. In addition, nothing, no crisis or upheaval can affect the attraction of a significant part of humanity to water. The sea is integrated into many cultures and the DNA of coastal peoples, so boats are not in danger.

Secondly, the tourism market is almost always growing, and the yachting sector is a significant part of it.

Thirdly, thanks to new technologies and innovations, boats are becoming more interesting for young people, much easier to operate and safer to navigate. The active transition from internal combustion engines to electricity also contributes to the growing interest in motorboats, not only for economic reasons, but also in light of the greater sense of responsibility of new generations for the environment.

Fourth, the industry will undoubtedly thrive in our new workplace standards, where digital nomadism and remote work have long been the norm for many developers and owners of various online companies.

Fifth, there is now an interest from investors in the construction of new marinas. Many sea lovers would be happy to buy a boat if there were free berths in their area, but there are none. The development of easily accessible coastal infrastructure will significantly increase interest in the motor yacht market. Programs for the active development of yachting have recently been adopted in a number of countries in Asia, Africa and South America, as well as in Russia.

Sixth, the growing diversity of boat designs ensures that every buyer can find the yacht of their dreams, which will not only be beautiful, but also efficient and economical.

Seventh, according to our surveys, the vast majority of sea lovers are not going to give up their hobby, even if the predicted climate change makes yachting in their region virtually impossible, for example, due to frequent and strong hurricanes. More than 60% of boat owners responded that they would be willing to consider moving to areas more suitable for sailing and boating, even if this would involve some career and financial concessions or additional expenses.

Eighth, if the forecasts about global warming really begin to come true, then, while for some regions this may have catastrophic consequences, for other areas the yachting season may be extended and generally become more favorable for recreation on the water.

Ninth, during the pandemic, many people thirsty for travel and autonomy bought motorhomes. These are the people who have already tasted freedom and now will no longer be able to give it up. However, now many of them are looking towards boats, realizing that this can take them to a new level of freedom and adventure, without being tied to roads, with the maximum sense of romance and delight in the beauty of the landscapes while being between the sea and the sky.
